Gowseva, Gowraksha: An Integral Part of Santana Dharma

Social Cause of the Month

Kamadhenu Gowshala & Foundation was previously a privately run gowshala for desi cows (Bos Indicus), with 400+ cows and calves. The gowshala was established in September 2018 with an intention to be managed with the available internal financial resources.

As a devout family, we intend to follow Krishna’s words in the ‘Bhagavat Gita,

 “kṛṣi-go-rakṣya-vāṇijyaṁ vaiśya-karma svabhāva”

Which means that agriculture, gowraksha and trading are the basic duties of one who belongs to Vysya community.

We decided to follow this doctrine under the guidance of Smt. Devata Gajalakshmi, the managing trustee of Kamadhenu Gowshala and established the gowshala out of pure devotion to gowmata and spent about 4.5cr for establishing and maintaining it. It was done so with absolute devotion.

However, for over a year the family’s business and finance saw the worst hit because of the Covid pandemic crisis. Belonging to an affluent business family and Aryavysya business community, we had substantial quantities of gold and silver all of which was sold to sustain the gowshala operations. The finances deteriorated to an extent that from April 2021 the gowshala standards plummeted and went from being the best gowshala to a poorly maintained one.

We then decided to turn the gowshala into a charitable trust, having left with no other choice. Fortunately, with the help of well-wishers, the gowshala has been converted to a state registered trust being audited and planned to be run as a not-for-profit venture. We got over the crisis with the public support that we gained in the last 2 months. It has since then regained its standards and can again claim to be the best maintained gowshala.

There are many references in Vedas, Upanishads and Shastras, which declares the importance of gowseva and gowraksha. According to ‘Brahma Vaivarta Purana,’

 Gaavaha prathishta bhootanam |

 Gaavaha swastyanam bhavath, Gavo lakshmyaha thadha moolam ||

Which says that gowmata is the foundation of all living beings, they should be taken care of and wherever gowmata-s are, that place is an abode of Lakshmi. The Rig Veda says,

Gavo yagnasya hi phalam |

 Gavo dadathi vy homam ||

 Which means, gowmata is the medium to gain punya of performing yagna. Rig Veda also says,

 Gavo lakshmyaha sada moola |

 Goshu paapmanabhishyate ||

 Meaning, gowmata, is an embodiment of Mahalakshmi and that she is devoid of all papa-s.

Gowseva, Gowraksha at Kamadhenu Gowshala and Foundation

Gowmata and gowseva has bhowtika as well as paramarthika prayojana, meaning practical, material, and spiritual benefits.

 The panchagavya chikitsa has proven tremendously effective to treat many terminal illnesses. The shadanga-s of gowmata, namely, gomayam, go jalam, go ksheeram, go dadhi, go ghrutham, and go rochanam, are Amrutha (Elixir).

Such gowmata-s are now mercilessly taken to the abattoir and killed with a sole intention to eradicate and uproot our vast knowledge, culture, and divinity.

The followers of Max Mueller, who misinterpreted our Shastras, are innumerably spreading falsehood about our culture and traditions with an evil intention to vanquish our culture.

 It is a primordial duty of every person born as a Hindu, to serve, and preserve gowmata not only for us but even for our future generations’ well-being.

We urge help from all Hindus to help us in this initiative of gowseva and gowraksha. Till date, we have rescued, rehabilitated, and are taking care of 400+ gowmata-s. 25 gowmata-s were rescued this month alone.

As of now, we individually are not capable of taking this up on our own. Please render help by joining us in this divine initiative.
