Directed by Aditya Dhar who was best known for “Uri: The Surgical Strike,” Article 370 is a beautifully crafted film dwelling with the abrogation of Article 370, perhaps the most significant development in independent India’s history. The film starts with a brief narrative of the mess created by Mr. Nehru in handling the Kashmir issue and what led to the Kashmir unrest which remained a festering wound in India’s growth path until Shri Narendra Modi abrogated the article 370.
The filmmaker deserves a big round of applause for not making the film feel like a documentary which it could have easily slipped in to because it is an exact account of events that led to the abrogation of Article 370 and the nuances therein.
For most part the film is carried well by Yami Gautam who manages the intelligence part in Kashmir and Priyamani who takes care of the New Delhi part. Not in a long time have we seen two women carry a film with ease and deliver a punch without the usual masala or jingoism. Nari Shakti which has been a focus of Honorable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji has been wonderfully portrayed by the inspiring act of the two ladies. Actors Sumit Kaul, Raj Zutshi, Raj Arun, and Vaibhav Tatwawadi, deliver commendable performances. A big shoe to step in for both Arun Govil as the Prime Minister and Kiran Karmarkar as Home Minister, also come out tops.
The film keeps you on the edge and is moving, the monumental mess created and the air of despair to the emergence of leaders who make it happen gives hope. What was heartening was the packed cinema halls with claps and applause upon the moments which we have seen in press during 2015 to 2019 period, audience erupting in jubilation when PM Modi Ji makes the statement on One Nation-One Constitution and Home Minister Amit Shah Ji delivering a solid speech in Rajya Sabha was a welcome change to be noted.
Bharat is moving forward – No Stopping us.
One can let things happen, make it happen or wonder what happened. History belongs to those who seek to bring about change and script it themselves. Thankfully Bharat under Narendra Modi Ji is doing all the right things in scripting the right history and undoing all the monumental mistakes of the past. Movies like Article 370 come to show how difficult or rather what it takes to make great things happen like abrogation of Article 370. We feel happy, joyous, celebratory when such patriotic things are achieved. But due credit and salutes to all the known and unknown, men and women for helping script history and making Naya Bharat happen.
Make it happen, make it count.
