Chorwadi Mata Temple in Gujarat

I feel glad and excited to write about Chorwadi mata, my supreme good fortune. Chorwad is a soil native to me. Right from childhood, I have marveled at Chorwadi Mataji and had endless, blind faith in her. Chorwad is a City and a Municipality in Junagadh, a district in Gujarat, India. Chorwad means village or settlement of Thieves. It is akin to saying Thieves Ville where Chor means - THIEF in Singular and Vad means '' Village" or 'Settlement'`.

Chorwadi mata is an incarnation of Bhavani Mataji, but since she presides over Chorwadi, she's known as Chorwadi Mataji in the local vernacular. The original form of Chorwad Mataji is Bhavani Mataji.

Bhavani Mata is an incarnation of Lord Parvathi, wife of Lord Shiva. Bhava is another name for Lord Shiva; thus, Bhava's wife is named Bhavani. The seat of Shri Chorwadi Mata ji is called JHUND by people. Originally it was only forest land; senior residents of Chorwad remember only the woods surrounding the entire area. It is believed that the idol appeared on its own, right from the EARTH. VANIK MERCHANT was passing along the coast of Chorwad when he was trying to escape the storm when he found the deity. He prayed to the Mother Goddess, made an offering, and immersed himself in the sea in the direction of Mataji.

Mata ji came in the dream of the Priest. She expressed her happiness over the offering. She also said that she would appear on her own. She continued to ask her dear deity only to open the temple four hours after daylight, or her form would remain incomplete. But the Priest woke up and opened the temple early so that only her face was formed and looked as beautiful as a Lotus appeared. The rest of her form remained within the Earth. To this day, the Chorwadi Mata ji deity is only in the form of a Face.
