Thiruppavai Vaazhvu Thirunaal—a festival celebrating life through devotion, learning and service—is the tentative name for an ambitious gathering being planned by Vikasatarangini, Coimbatore. At a meeting of its Tiruppavai Committee, members discussed bringing more than 5,000 people together to chant Andal’s Tiruppavai and the Vishnu Sahasranamam under the guidance of Sri Tridandi Srimannarayana Ramanuja Chinna Jeeyar Swamigal. The organisers aspire to set a world record through the mass chanting.

In the thirty pasurams of the Tiruppavai, Andal calls her companions to rise, gather and seek the divine together. That spirit of collective devotion feels especially fitting for Vaazhvu Thirunaal. The committee hopes to see thousands of voices rise as one in Coimbatore, while younger generations discover the beauty of verses that have been sung and cherished for centuries.

The meeting also explored ways to make the celebration much more than a single day of chanting. Competitions are being planned for children and adults in drawing, singing, group dance, fancy dress, Tiruppavai pasuram chanting, neivedhyam making, photography and an Andal quiz, with cash prizes for winners. Tree planting and heritage tours are among the activities planned ahead of the main gathering, connecting the spirit of the festival with care for nature and an appreciation of heritage.

Vikasatarangini has long brought social service and spiritual learning together in Coimbatore. Its initiatives include five cancer awareness programmes conducted before the COVID-19 pandemic and the Prajna Vedic curriculum. Vazhvu Thirunal carries that spirit forward, inviting families and communities to take part in a shared cultural experience.

The name Thiruppavai Vaazhvu Thirunaal remains open to suggestions. The dates, venue and participation details will be announced soon.
